Are You Glossophobic?

According to definitions.net, the fear of speaking is called glossophobia. The word comes from the Greek γλῶσσα glōssa, meaning tongue, and φόβος phobos, fear or dread.

Glossophobes fear speaking up—even at small social gatherings where they already know many of the guests. Do you fear being embarrassed because you're easily tongue-tied, stutter or stumble over your words, start to tremble uncontrollably, or have your mind go blank when you begin to speak? Have you ever felt like a verbal klutz in even the most casual of conversations, although you're knowledgeable about the topic being discussed?

Communication anxiety and its many physical reactions are real—the queasy stomach or nausea, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, and shortness of breath! Have you experienced muscle tension and excessive sweating before speaking or presenting in front of a group? These are all recognized as physical manifestations of communication anxiety. And if you're able to recognize them, know that you're also able to manage them!

Don't live with debilitating anxiety—Overcome your glossophobia by developing the confidence and skills you need to become a more effective leader, a dynamic and compelling presenter, and an engaging conversationalist.
